Check your calendars, ladies and gentlemen. Indeed, today is August 12th, and radar indicates rain this morning. Keep an umbrella handy, as it may be necessary over the next couple of days.
A large complex of showers and storms is approaching from the Northwest, weakening through the morning hours. Areas along and west of Interstate 35 have the highest chance of rain this morning, with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. As the day progresses, an upper-level low, combined with leftover boundaries from morning storms and daytime heating, will produce additional showers and storms. Lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rain are potential threats, especially from slow-moving storms. Afternoon highs will reach the low to mid-90s, accompanied by high humidity. It is advisable to pick up children from school, unless they carry an umbrella and enjoy rain.
Tomorrow, the upper-level low will move east, producing scattered showers and storms, primarily in the southeastern half of North Texas. The same threats will persist, with low severity. Afternoon highs will reach the low to mid-90s, depending on sunshine.
Storm chances will decrease Thursday, but a few may persist south and east. Afternoon highs will reach the mid-90s, with heat indices slightly over 100 degrees.
An upper-level high-pressure system will dominate the weather Friday through early next week, bringing temperatures into the mid to upper 90s. Triple-digit temperatures appear unlikely at present, but this depends on rainfall over the next 48 hours. Higher atmospheric moisture will lead to increased humidity and slightly lower surface temperatures.
Have a great day, and enjoy the weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got!
