Yesterday, the temperature at DFW Airport reached 101 degrees, marking our fourth triple-digit temperature this year. Although this is still below average, we are expected to approach 100 degrees today, with heat advisories in effect. Fortunately, scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecasted for today and tomorrow.
August is typically our hottest and driest month, with average highs of 96 degrees, which will continue to decrease as we approach fall. A weak cold front from Oklahoma will produce scattered showers and storms later this afternoon, with threats of heavy rain, frequent lightning, and downburst winds. This may cause delays in your commute home from work.
A cold front will be in our area tomorrow, with a 50% chance of showers and storms, and similar threats as today. Afternoon highs will reach the mid-90s, depending on cloud thickness. Although it will still feel close to 100 degrees with the humidity, temperatures will rapidly cool down if rain occurs.
The front will move south and dissipate by Thursday and Friday, taking most rain chances with it. Afternoon highs will reach the mid-90s with high humidity.
The weekend is expected to be hot and dry, with afternoon highs in the mid to upper 90s and heat index values above 100 degrees. It is essential to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks if working outdoors.
Another weather change is possible early next week, with a stronger front potentially bringing showers and thunderstorms. Although it is too early to predict the extent of the coverage, it is a positive development. I expect temperatures to reach the mid-90s on Monday, but significantly cooler temperatures are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday. Stay tuned for updates on this forecast.
Have a great day, stay cool, and enjoy the weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got!
