Scattered showers and storms are return to North Texas

North Texas Forecast for August 11, 2015
North Texas Forecast for August 11, 2015
National Weather Service

Another weekend has passed and temperatures stayed below 100°, barely. I am looking forward to slightly cooler weather this week, with a chance for showers and storms to return to the area.

Fortunately, the ridge of high pressure that has been dominating our weather for the past several days is starting to weaken and rebuild to the west of us temporarily. This will allow a trough of low pressure to move into the central Plains States for the next couple of days, bringing weak disturbances across North Texas. As a result, scattered afternoon and evening showers and storms can be expected through Thursday, with the highest coverage on Tuesday. Fortunately, severity will remain low.

There should be no problems for the kiddos on the buses this morning, as radar is clear and temperatures are hovering in the 70s, around average for this time of year. Partly cloudy skies will prevail today, with some scattered showers and storms developing from the southeast and east later this afternoon and evening. Most of the DFW area and points west and north will remain dry, with afternoon highs reaching the mid-90s.

A large complex of storms will form in the Panhandle late this afternoon and evening, then move southeast while we sleep tonight. As of now, it appears these storms will be weak and significantly diminished as they approach DFW by daybreak. This complex of storms will leave several boundaries around the area to interact with daytime heating on Tuesday, resulting in a 40% coverage of showers and storms during the afternoon and evening hours. Severity will remain low, although strong gusty winds, dangerous lightning, and brief heavy rain can be expected.

Additionally, leftover boundaries around Wednesday and Thursday may lead to a few more scattered showers and storms around the area. Temperatures will top out in the mid-90s until rain moves into your area.

As of now, Friday through the weekend is expected to be hot, with temperatures returning to the mid to upper 90s under partly cloudy skies and high humidity.

That's all I have for this back to school Monday morning. I appreciate everyone following my page and hope you have a beautiful day today. Please enjoy the weather when you can, as it's the only weather you've got!
