It's hard to believe this is the last day of June and our weather will feel like the last day of June, however, I've got some storms in my forecast late this evening and then again tomorrow.
Welcome to Monday, ladies and gentlemen, and a shortened work week for many of you. So far this summer, the weather hasn't been too bad, even though it's only been around for about 10 days or so. Afternoon highs through the week will reach the mid-90s with morning lows in the mid to upper 70s. However, there is some rain in the forecast for some of you.
We're waking up to a mainly clear sky with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s with a ton of humidity in place. That humidity will stick around through the week, making it feel about 5° hotter than the apparent temperature.
I talked about some rain chances above. Widespread shower and thunderstorm activity will break out along a creeping cold front that'll be south of Interstate 40 in Oklahoma later this afternoon and evening. Showers and storms will form and sag south of the Red River towards midnight tonight, impacting the northern half of North Texas before daybreak tomorrow. Ares along and north of Interstate 30 have the best chance for storms. Nothing severe is expected, but many of you will see some welcome late June and early July rainfall. Severity remains very low. These storms will weaken before daybreak.
With some leftover cold pools in the atmosphere combined with daytime heating tomorrow, scattered showers and storms will break out and impact some of you before the day is done. Many of you will stay dry.
Our next slight storm chance will return late Thursday afternoon and evening as a disturbance comes in from the southwest, but widespread storms are not in the forecast.
After Thursday, hot, humid, and dry weather will prevail through the 4th of July weekend, with morning lows in the 70s and highs that may creep up into the upper 90s this weekend, depending on how much rain falls over the next 48 hours. Fortunately, this won't impact the fireworks shows.
Please remember to stay hydrated with good old-fashioned water. Stay away from caffeinated beverages and alcohol if you're going to be out on the area lakes, and be sure to wear a life jacket if you're going to be on any motorized vehicles. We've had several drownings so far this summer. Be smart.
Have a terrific day, a terrific work week, and enjoy the weather when you can; it's the only weather you've got.
