Clouds returned to North Texas on Tuesday morning, bringing a few sprinkles, scattered showers on Wednesday, and numerous showers, some severe, late Wednesday through Thursday morning. It will be followed by a return to sunny skies and 70-degree temperatures this weekend.
Tuesday began with cloudy conditions and a few sprinkles on the radar across eastern parts of North Texas, which will move out within the next few hours. Sunshine will be rare Tuesday as temperatures rise into the upper 50s.
Cloud ceilings will decrease overnight, with scattered showers developing by daybreak on Wednesday. There could be on-and-off showers throughout the day, with afternoon highs reaching the low 60s.
By late Wednesday evening, a large area of showers and isolated severe thunderstorms will develop west of Interstate 35W. The primary concern is the heavy rain expected to fall, potentially leading to totals averaging nearly 2 inches. Some isolated areas, particularly east of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, may experience higher totals.
The rain will move out by late Thursday morning, but there is a chance we set a record for rainfall before noon on Thursday. The current record, set in 1982, stands at 1.24 inches. Skies will gradually clear from west to east throughout the day, with afternoon highs reaching the low to mid-60s.
Friday is expected to be spectacular, with plenty of sunshine and afternoon highs in the low to mid-60s.
This weekend promises to be even better, with plenty of sunshine and highs reaching the low 70s on Saturday and mid-70s on Sunday, potentially rising to the upper 70s west of Fort Worth.
Our next subtle weather change is expected to arrive on Monday with our next cold front, although it is still too early to determine if it will bring any rain.
