A series of storm chances are expected over the next seven days, with some potentially becoming severe.
We are currently experiencing a mostly cloudy sky with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 60s. A dying small area of storms is being monitored southwest of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, which should dissipate by mid-morning as it approaches the I-35W corridor north of Interstate 20. However, additional storm chances are forecasted for this afternoon and evening as our next disturbance impacts the weather.
The greatest risk for large hail and damaging winds will be just west and south of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, although one or two warnings cannot be ruled out for areas north of Interstate 20. Storms should begin to subside by midnight, with afternoon highs reaching the low to mid-80s.
Our next weather system will closely follow today's storm, with a cold front expected to move through North Texas tomorrow, increasing storm chances once again. The greatest threat for severe weather will be south of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. While monitoring the frontal position during peak heating hours, the risk for DFW and the Red River area appears relatively low. Afternoon highs will reach the low 80s.
The forecast for Friday through the weekend appears favorable, with afternoon highs near 80 on Friday, mid-80s on Saturday, and approaching 90 degrees on Sunday. A slight chance of early morning storms exists on Sunday as a dying complex of storms approaches from the northwest, although most areas will remain dry.
Next Monday and Tuesday are expected to be breezy and warm, with afternoon highs reaching the low 90s. While it is too early to predict storm chances, a small chance exists each evening as a dry line becomes active west of the US during the afternoon hours. Updates will be provided as necessary.
The KRLD Storm Center team will activate coverage if necessary over the coming days. In the meantime, enjoy the weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got.
