A tale of two air masses is unfolding in North Texas. You will remain on the cool side if you reside north of the front through Friday. Conversely, living south of the front, you can expect temperatures in the 70s to low 80s. There is a possibility of record-breaking warmth on Saturday, followed by a return to chilly conditions Sunday through Tuesday, accompanied by rain.
A dense fog advisory was in effect for all of North Texas on Wednesday that will last until mid to late morning. Visibility in affected areas will be reduced to less than half a mile. Temperatures were in the mid to upper 40s and will not warm up significantly behind the front. Areas north of Interstate 20 will remain in the 50s throughout the day, while areas south of the front will experience upper 70s with occasional sunshine south of DFW.
This front will lift back to the north Wednesday night, with morning lows in the mid-60s. Another cold front will move into the area tomorrow afternoon and evening. If you live north of the front, you can expect highs in the 60s. Conversely, areas south of the front will experience highs near 80 degrees.
The same temperature forecasting challenges exist for Friday. If you reside north of the front, you will experience highs in the 60s. South of the front, highs will be near 80 degrees again. This front will lift to the north into Oklahoma Friday evening, paving the way for record warmth on Saturday. Afternoon highs will reach the mid to upper 80s, with 85 degrees being the record.
Our next cold front will pass through Saturday evening, extending all the way down to Central Texas and eventually reaching the Texas coast by Sunday evening and Monday. Behind the front, clouds will be abundant, areas of drizzle, and temperatures will hover in the low to mid-50s throughout Sunday.
The next weather system will override the chilly air in place next Monday and Tuesday, bringing a large area of rain late Monday into the first part of Tuesday. While it is still too early to determine the exact amount of rainfall and timing, one thing is certain: temperatures will hover in the mid to upper 40s throughout Monday and Tuesday, marking a return to winter in North Texas.
The weather will clear out by Wednesday, with a slow warm-up expected through the end of the week.
