Temperatures will take us on a roller coaster ride through the weekend before they stay cool next week. A couple of inches of rain could arrive with the dip in temperatures.

North Texas was on the cold side of a shallow layer of chilly air Friday morning. The cold front stalled in Central Texas and will slowly lift northward, clearing the Dallas-Fort Worth area by Friday evening. Consequently, the official high-temperature will occur just before midnight.

Temperatures started between 45 and 53 degrees Friday morning under a cloudy sky. Although no rain was on the radar, some areas encountered drizzle through 9 a.m. Most areas will remain cloudy, with sunshine returning from south to north during the afternoon. Areas north of the Dallas-Fort Worth area will likely remain cloudy throughout the day, with high temperatures warming into the low 60s. Temperatures south of Dallas and Fort Worth will rise into the 70s.

Saturday will begin with a cloudy sky and temperatures in the mid-60s. It will be mild and muggy, with a south wind at 10-20 mph. Sunshine will return by late morning, potentially leading to record highs by the end of the day. The record for Saturday is 85 degrees.

The next front arrives Saturday evening, bringing drizzle and low clouds, but no measurable rain. Temperatures will drop to the upper 30s to low 40s by Sunday morning, with wind gusts reaching 25 miles per hour, making it feel near freezing in some areas. The clouds will persist throughout the day, with areas of drizzle and steady afternoon highs in the low 40s.

Temperatures from Monday through Thursday will only reach the mid-40s during the day. Additionally, two upper-level disturbances will increase rain chances through Thursday morning. The first disturbance arrives Monday evening through early Tuesday afternoon, while the second arrives on Wednesday through Thursday morning. Data suggests 1-2 inches of rain across the area, although these totals will change as we approach each event.
