Your tax-free weekend looks hot and dry

North Texas forecast for August 8, 2025
North Texas forecast for August 8, 2025
National Weather Service

It's that time of the year. The average high temperature will remain at 97 degrees until the middle of the month. Incidentally, the official temperature at DFW Airport reached 97 degrees yesterday. Fortunately, this summer has not been too severe thus far.

I wish you all a happy Friday and hope you had a productive work week. The weather this summer hasn't been too bad, however, we have another day of heat advisories in place. Afternoon highs are expected to approach 100 degrees at DFW, but areas west of Fort Worth have a higher likelihood of reaching the century mark today. Heat index values will approach 105 degrees under a partly cloudy sky.

The upcoming tax-free weekend is expected to be pleasant, with afternoon highs reaching the upper 90s and heat index values nearing 105 degrees. Although it is uncertain whether a heat advisory will be in place, the Weather Service will make that determination this evening.

For many students, the upcoming week marks the beginning of a new school year, and the weather is expected to be seasonal, with afternoon highs in the mid-to-upper 90s. There is a chance of scattered late-day showers and storms from Monday to Wednesday, with the highest probability west of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Currently, Tuesday appears to have the greatest likelihood of precipitation, with a 30% chance. By the end of next week, we anticipate a return to hot and dry weather conditions.

The tropics are currently quiet; however, this will likely change as we approach the end of the month and the peak season in September. I will keep you informed.

Have a great Friday and weekend, and enjoy the weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got!
