A woman in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, is in serious condition after being kicked by a moose during a vehicle collision, police say.

The crash happened in the city when the vehicle struck the animal, setting off a chain of events that led to the woman’s injuries.

Authorities say the moose was hit by the vehicle and then came through or alongside it, kicking the woman before breaking free and running off. Police emphasized that her injuries were caused by the kick itself, not the initial collision.

Emergency crews treated the woman at the scene before she was taken to a hospital, where she remains in serious condition. The moose was not injured badly enough to require intervention and was last seen leaving the area.

Officials note that moose collisions are especially dangerous because of the animals’ size and height, which often cause them to strike windshields rather than passing beneath vehicles. Drivers in moose-prone areas are urged to slow down and remain alert, particularly in low-light conditions.
