A truck carrying about 15,000 live crabs overturned on a rural road in Ireland, spilling its cargo and briefly shutting down traffic as crews worked to recover the animals.
Authorities say the crash happened earlier this week and prompted a large-scale cleanup along the roadway.
Emergency responders and local workers collected the crabs by hand, returning most of them to secure containers. Officials said roughly 95 percent of the shipment was recovered, leaving an estimated 750 crabs unaccounted for in nearby fields and ditches.
No injuries were reported in the crash, and authorities said the road reopened after the cleanup was completed. Officials did not say what caused the truck to overturn but confirmed the cargo was being transported for commercial purposes.
The unusual recovery effort drew attention locally as crews worked to prevent the crabs from spreading into surrounding areas.
