LOS ANGELES (KNX) — An additional 12 COVID-19 cases related to the Omicron variant were reported in Los Angeles County Thursday by the Department of Public Health, marking the first time that so many cases have been reported in one day.

Available information on the 12 additional cases indicates:
- 5 were symptomatic, none of the required hospitalization
- 6 have unknown symptom status, unknown if they were hospitalized
- 3 of 12 are unvaccinated
- 9 of the 12 were fully vaccinated
- 2 of those 9 received a booster dose
- 0 reported international travel
- 2 reported travel outside of California

The cases come the same day as a large number of new COVID-19 cases. More than 2,000 cases were reported by health officials Thursday, along with 20 new virus-related deaths.

To date, more than 9.6 million people in the county have been tested, with 15% testing positive for COVID-19, health officials said.

As of Saturday, some 6.1 million Angelenos have been fully vaccinated. As pictured below, 88,338 (1.4%) of those fully vaccinated had tested positive for COVID-19 by that same date, according to Barbara Ferrer, the director of Public Health.

"Hospitalizations and death rates among those who are fully vaccinated remain both low and relatively stable," Ferrer said.

Vaccines to prevent the virus remain available for a wide-range of ages and all who are eligible are encourage to get vaccinated as soon as possible, or get their booster if they have already been vaccinated, according to county data.

In addition to getting vaccinated, county health officials are urging all Angelenos with plans to travel or who have family members coming for the holidays to get tested before and after gatherings, to reduce the spread of the virus.
