New music machines Bring Me The Horizon made an electric appearance at this past weekend's Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, CA, and dropped by to chat with Audacy host Carlota backstage about the band's writing process and how music helps to distract from life's daily disturbances.

Known for their dramatic transitions and musical curveballs, Bring Me The Horizon's Jordan Fish says the band arrives at those decisions simply by messing around and consciously trying to bring something different to the table during their sessions. With "lots of different influences" shared between members, he says they just "try and squidge it into something that makes sense."
Now celebrating almost 20 years as a band, things certainly seem to be making plenty of sense for the members and their community of fans alike.
"Immersing yourself in a different world sonically, I always found quite a nice experience," Jordan says. "Falling in love with an album and obsessing over it, listening to it with your headphones on... it kind of is a way to distract your brain from whatever is going on. More than that it's a culture and a scene around music that helped me when I was younger because I wasn't necessarily in any group of people. So, my group of people kind of became music people and people in bands, and people who love bands."
"I think having a kind of tribe or gang -- a bunch of people who you can relate to and connect to over a shared interest," he says, "helps you feel a bit less alone in life."
