Authorities Friday were investigating an assault at Diamond Ranch High School in the Pomona area involving a suspect who allegedly struck a student with a gun.
The altercation occurred about 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the campus at 100 Diamond Ranch Drive, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which reported there would be increased patrols on Friday at and near the school.
The campus is in an unincorporated Los Angeles County area near Pomona. Video at the scene of the incident shows a male holding a gun, and a scuffle involving a group of people.
Deputies from the Walnut/Diamond Bar Station were sent to the school on a report that "a group of males had entered the campus armed with firearms and assaulted a student," the sheriff's department said in a statement.

"Deputies contacted the victim, who stated he was approached by a group of males while sitting outside of the high school and (they) began a verbal argument with him," the sheriff's department said.
"During the argument, one suspect produced a firearm and struck the victim with the frame of the gun. The suspects then fled the school grounds prior to the arrival of responding deputies. The victim suffered minor injuries from the altercation."
No arrests have been reported.
"The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information at this time," the sheriff's department reported. "There will be increased patrol checks of the campus and surrounding area."
According to a message from Pomona Unified School District Superintendent Darren Knowles to parents and staff, which was obtained by ABC7: ``We are working with the local authorities to provide information to help them apprehend the suspects. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department will be on campus Saturday along with additional Pomona Unified School District Security to support the safety of our students. We will continue to keep our parents, students and staff updated as we learn additional information."
Anyone with information on the case was urged to contact the Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff's Station at 626-913-1715.
