A barricaded armed suspect and police officers exchanged gunfire before they took him into custody in the Skid Row area of downtown Los Angeles, authorities said Wednesday.
Los Angeles Police Department officers were called to the 400 block of Fifth Street between Hill and Olive streets at 8:37 p.m. Tuesday regarding calls from a neighbor allegedly the suspect had threatened them with a gun, an LAPD spokesman told City News Service.
Upon their arrival, the suspect saw the officers and barricaded himself inside a nearby apartment, police said. Inside the apartment, the suspect fired a shot and the officers returned fire.
The suspect was subsequently taken into custody. No one was injured during the shooting.
Fifth Street remained closed between San Pedro and Wall streets following the arrest, police said.
