A body was found Friday morning in the lake at MacArthur Park in Westlake, the Los Angeles Police Department has reported.
An LAPD spokesperson said the body was discovered by a civilian just before 6 a.m. on the northeast side of the lake, near the intersection of Alvarado and Seventh streets. Officers responded to the scene shortly thereafter.
A photo tweeted by KTLA's Ginger Chan showed what appeared to be a body floating face-down near the edge of the lake. (Warning: The image is graphic and disturbing.)
The identify of the deceased person is unknown. Police have not disclosed whether they have determined how long the body was in the lake. The area near where it was discovered has been cordoned off as an investigation is ongoing.
The LAPD has not said whether they suspect foul play.
This a developing story. More information will be included as it becomes available.
