A five-acre brush fire destroyed one house in Topanga Canyon on Thursday morning.
Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the 2200 block of Swenson Drive around 3:30 a.m. where they learned the fire spread to a two-story building nearby.
Just before 4:00 a.m., Malibu Public Safety wrote on X that a Public Safety Power Outage was ongoing in Las Flores Canyon and East Malibu.
The fire was 50% contained by 4:30 a.m., according to City News Service.
Craig Little with the Los Angeles County Fire Department told KNX News’ Jon Baird the high winds caused the fire to spread.
“We can definitely attribute to its spread due to these high wind situations,” he said.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
