A 1-year-old girl forced onto life support from injuries she received at a Visalia in-home daycare died, prompting police to charge the owner with murder Tuesday.

Officers responded to the Imagination Playhouse on W. Sunnyside Avenue on Nov. 3 where they said they found the toddler unconscious.

She was taken to a nearby hospital. Doctors believed the child’s injuries were “non-accidental”, according to Visalia Times Delta. Yet healthcare workers airlifted the child to Valley Children’s Hospital.

Police said the baby died from its injuries Monday.

Investigators said only one person had any interaction with the child when it was hurt – Amanda Taylor, the owner of the daycare.

On Friday, Taylor turned herself into police who arrested her for felony child abuse, police said. Authorities escalated the charges to include homicide after the infant died.

Detectives told the Visalia Times Delta that since Taylor’s arrest, more reports of abuse at the daycare have emerged. They’re asking parents who may have additional information or children who experienced unexplained injuries to contact investigators.
