A new documentary highlights six groups working to bridge divides through song, sport, and dialogue.
Bridging Divides: Sharing Heartbeats, directed by Susan Polis Schutz, puts the spotlight on several groups working to bring people from different backgrounds together. One of the groups includes the Jerusalem Youth Chorus, which helps Palestinian and Israeli members learn about each other through song and dialogue.
“They talk about the problems, they talk about their differences, then they let that go and they sing,” Schutz told KNX News’ Margaret Carrero. “And they're really good singers and they love music and they tour all over.”
Another group featured in the documentary is Fandango Fronterizo, a group of Mexicans and Americans who play music at the border.
“Like one woman that I interviewed, she said, ‘we dance and we sing and we totally forget that there's a border wall,’’ Schutz said.
“Bridging Divides: Sharing Heartbeats” is streaming on the PBS website.
