Trevor Bauer is being investigated for assault by the Pasadena police department after a woman came forward alleging the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher became physical with her during a sexual encounter earlier this year, according to TMZ Sports.
The report states that sources close to Bauer say the pitcher is adamant it was just consensual, rough sex with a woman he met online and that he is cooperating with authorities.
The alleged victim was granted a temporary domestic violence restraining order against Bauer earlier on Tuesday in Los Angeles, per TMZ.
The alleged victim’s attorney, Marc Garelick, told TMZ that “the order is a result of a recent assault that took place at the hands of Mr. Bauer where [the victim] suffered severe physical and emotional pain.”
Garelick added that he expects criminal charges to be filed against Bauer, which will likely be determined by the district attorney, law enforcement sources told TMZ.
Bauer, 30, is one of the most outspoken and polarizing figures in the sport. He is the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner and inked a three-year, $102 million contract with the Dodgers earlier this year, making him the highest-paid pitcher on an annual average in baseball.
He is 8-5 with a 2.59 ERA and league-leading 137 strikeouts in his first season with the Dodgers.
