Gas prices in LA County have been going up for 23 days straight

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose for the 23rd consecutive day Saturday, increasing a half-cent to $4.811.

The average price has risen 27.2 cents over the past 23 days, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. The streak of rising prices began one day after the end of a 20-day streak of decreases that dropped the average price to its lowest amount since Jan. 24, 2023.

The average price is 6.4 cents more than one week ago, 21.3 cents more than one month ago and 3.4 cents more than one year ago. It has dropped $1.683 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The Orange County average price dropped three-tenths of a cent to $4.764, after increasing 21 times in the previous 22 days. It is 5.8 cents more than one week ago, 28.3 cents higher than one month ago and 2.2 cents more than one year ago. It has dropped $1.695 since rising to a record $6.459 on Oct. 5, 2022.

"Southern California refineries are continuing to report planned and unplanned maintenance, which creates supply uncertainty and drives up prices at the pump," said Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.

The national average price declined two-tenths of a cent to $3.282, ending a streak of 10 consecutive increases. The national average price is 9.9 cents more than one week ago and 19.4 cents more than one month ago, but 13.9 cents less than one year ago. It has dropped $1.734 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
