LOS ANGELES (KNX) — COVID-19 is once more spreading rapidly through Los Angeles, likely thanks in part to the emergence of the Omicron variant.

Data released by the city of L.A. showed reported cases nearly tripled over the last week. Between Dec. 11 and Dec. 17, the following neighborhoods reported the most new COVID-19 cases, concentrated primarily in the Hollywood and West Valley areas:

- Melrose: 194 cases
- North Hollywood: 189 cases
- Sherman Oaks: 186 cases
- Hollywood: 166 cases
- Venice: 124 cases
- Woodland Hills: 104 cases
- Encino: 102 cases

Many of these are among the most densely populated neighborhoods in L.A., which might account for high infection rates.

Other areas with high infection rates include Van Nuys, Los Feliz, Silverlake, Downtown L.A., University Park, Mar Vista, Reseda, Granada Hills, West Hills, Sylmar, and Northridge.
