Backstage at Coachella this year, we got a chance to briefly chat with Japanese Breakfast's Michelle Zauner ahead of her performance on Saturday, marking the singer's second time playing in the California desert.

"I feel a lot chiller than I did the first time," Zauner tells Audacy's Megan Holiday. "My goal today is just to have fun." In the lead-up to this weekend, she and the band have been putting in quite a bit of time perfecting their stage show, and now that the day has finally arrived, it's all about good times now. "I feel like the past year has been really high-pressure and wanting to put on a really good show," Michelle explains. "Now, I just feel like the band is in a position where that's just gonna happen, and I'm ready to just enjoy myself."
"Coachella festival sets are always a little bit shorter for bands like us," she adds, "so I feel really good about the bangers we have in store."
Aside from her musical aspirations, Zauner's been keeping busy creating a screenplay for her 2021 memoir, Crying In Hmart. "It feels great," she says. "I kind of just set about making this album and this book three years ago, and I had just assumed at least one of my projects would fail -- and both of them are doing really well. It's kind of like you plant a bunch of seeds and expect half the crop to die -- and then they're all sprouting at the same time, so I'm very, very grateful that that's what happened."
