“Kaiser Permanente and the National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW) have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract covering approximately 2,400 mental health and addiction medicine employees in Southern California,” a statement by Kaiser Permanente read. “With this tentative agreement, NUHW will end its open-ended strike in Southern California. “

The strike lasted six months, making it the longest mental healthcare strike in the U.S.

Therapists and other mental health workers said they wanted more time for patient follow-up, pension benefits reinstated, and a cost-of-living pay raise.

A ratification vote on the deal is set for Thursday, and if approved, it would take effect immediately.
