Los Angeles City council members voted to approve a new installation honoring Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the late Supreme Court Justice.
The council authorized the monument, designed by Brooklyn-based visual artist Saya Woolfalk, to be displayed at the Van Nuys Civic Center. The city selected the because of its proximity to the courthouse and library, said ABC7 New York.

Benches resembling desks from Harvard’s law campus along with stainless steel doors will adorn the monument, along with “special details about [Ginsburg’s] journey as a law student … recognizing her most treasured belongings and demonstrates her passion for the law,” the motion read.
“One of the door panels is slightly ajar, and ready to be pushed open by the next generation of women who are working towards equal rights,” said the proposal brought forward by Council President Nury Martinez.
Nominated by President Bill Clinton, Ginsburg served as a Supreme Court Justice from Aug. 1993 until her death in Sept. 2020.
Of nearly 5,000 statues honoring historical U.S. figures, less than 400, or 8%, honor women. Hulu commissioned the statue's creation, along with two others celebrating women's contributions.
