The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose Monday to its highest amount for a Christmas Day, increasing 1.1 cents to $4.721, topping the previous Christmas record of $4.675 set in 2021.
The average price rose for the third consecutive day following a run of 39 decreases in 40 days that had dropped it to its lowest amount since Feb. 10, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The average price is seven-tenths of a cent less than one week ago and 29.6 cents lower than one month ago, but 27.7 cents more than one year ago. It has dropped $1.773 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The Orange County average price rose to its second-highest amount on a Christmas, increasing six-tenths of a cent to $4.593, 23.9 cents more than last year's average of $4.354 but 5.2 cents less than the record $4.639 set in 2021.
The Orange County average price has risen three consecutive days following an 11-day streak of decreases that dropped it to its lowest amount since Feb. 2. It is 3 cents more than one week ago, but 25.8 cents less than one month ago, and has dropped $1.866 from its record high of $6.459 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The national average price was unchanged, remaining at $3.127 after dropping one-tenth of a cent each of the previous two days. It is 6.1 cents more than one week ago and 2.5 cents higher than one year ago, but 13.8 cents less than one month ago.
The national average price has decreased $1.889 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
