The Men's Central Jail in Downtown Los Angeles was locked down Tuesday afternoon as Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies investigated reports of a man with a gun inside the building.
Investigators swept the jail, putting the building on lockdown for at least eight hours, Deputy Sheriff Eric Ortiz said Wednesday morning.
He said the investigation resulted in a "negative outcome" no gunman or weapon was found. At this time Ortiz said it is unclear where the reports of a gunman originated.
ABC7 News reported that a security sweep was underway inside the facility shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday. At this time it is not clear if a suspected gunman was found.
An individual on a stretcher and wearing a neck brace was seen being rolled out of the jail's infirmary on a gurney and loaded into a waiting ambulance. It is not known whether the incident was connected to the lockdown.
