United Teachers Los Angeles is pulling its support for Kahllid Al-Alim, a Board of Education candidate, over posts he “liked” on social media.
Al-Alim faced criticism over “likes” on antisemitic and pornographic posts on X, formerly Twitter.
Leaders of UTLA held an emergency meeting Thursday night to decide how to move forward in the race for the District 1 seat.
The union has already given $600,000 to Al-Alim’s campaign. The board voted to immediately suspend all campaign activities in District 1 while “expediting member discussion” over the possibility of rescinding his endorsement, according to a statement.

Al-Alim said in a statement that he regrets his social media actions.
The union’s endorsement team and political action committee will have in-person meetings next week to discuss the issue.
