LOS ANGELES (KNX) – On Thursday, Los Angeles County officials will mark the first day of Pride Month by raising the Progress Pride Flag over the downtown Hall of Administration

Chair of the Board of Supervisors, Janice Hahn told KNX News it will be historic.

“We are starting a new annual tradition and it will be a great message from the County of Los Angeles of our inclusion,” she said.

In March, the Board of Supervisors approved a resolution by Hahn and Supervisor Lindsey Horvath to raise the flag during the month of June.

“We see other states that are taking away the rights of the LGBTQ community, especially the trans community,” Hahn said. “So I think as the, you know, the largest county in the country, we wanted to send a message and fly that flag high and proud.”

The Progress Pride flag adds black, brown, pink, light blue, and white to the original rainbow flag. The black and brown represent LGBTQ+ communities of color, while the pink, light blue, and white represent the transgender pride flag. It was designed by Daniel Quasar in 2018.

The flag-raising will be held at 10 a.m. Hahn and Horvath are both scheduled to attend, as well as Supervisor Hilda Solis, and District Attorney George Gascón. Sister Tootie Toot, a member of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will also attend.
