Police seized a large amount of illegal fireworks in Gardena on Wednesday night.

The Los Angeles Police Department's Bomb Squad responded to a report of a large quantity of fireworks in the 1600 block of West 146th Street around 7 p.m. The neighborhood was shut down for hours.

The large cache of fireworks appeared to be inside a garage, according to KCAL News. The exact amount of fireworks that were seized is unclear at this time.

A woman who lives in the neighborhood told KNX News’ Jon Baird it was “exciting but scary at the same time.”

“And it's right there, so we don't know what's going to happen and like there's so much dry land here that any little spark could just spark it,” she said.

Although no residents were evacuated, one resident said he wished they had.

“Everyone was here and they could have tried to at least tell us that, you know, maybe we should, like, evacuate some people that were nearby at least,” he said. “It was kind of a bit hectic because I was concerned for the safety of my mom and my sister.”

It’s unclear if anyone was arrested.
