A man driving with a handgun on the floor of a GMC Yukon was in the hospital after he crashed into a pole near the Santa Ana (5) Freeway Friday in Buena Park.
The crash was reported just after 1 a.m. near the Auto Center Drive off-ramp of the southbound freeway, where responding Buena Park Police Department officers learned the gray SUV came off the freeway and crashed into a parked vehicle and then into a pole, according to the California Highway Patrol.
When police tried to assist the driver, they discovered a handgun on the SUV's floorboards, Buena Park Police Sgt. Kevin Gano told City News Service.

Firefighters and paramedics from the Orange County Fire Authority were called to the scene and freed the driver from the SUV, police said. The driver was taken to a hospital in an unknown condition.
"The cause of the crash is still under investigation," Gano said, and it was unclear what charges the driver might face.
