Riverside Co. Department of Animal Services seeks arrest warrant for man who abandoned dog

JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. (KNX) – The Riverside County Department of Animal Services is seeking an arrest warrant for a man who was caught on camera abandoning his dog at a cell phone tower.

Officials said it happened Dec. 15 at a hill near Flossie Way and Pourroy Road. Surveillance footage showed the man picking up the dog and throwing it over a tall fence with razor wire on top of it.

The dog, an 8-year-old, male pit bull mix named KO, was found by maintenance workers, who contacted Animal Services. It’s believed the dog was left for less than two hours. KO was treated for discharge in his eyes, but Animal Services Commander Josh Sisler said it’s a miracle the dog did not suffer serious injuries.

Animal service officials said records indicated the dog was owned by Robert Ruiz Jr., 30. The dog’s microchip led to an address in Temecula, but officials said it appears Ruiz Jr.
no longer lives there.

“Animal Services will be seeking an arrest warrant for Mr. Ruiz for willful abandonment of an animal based on the footage and additional information,” the department said in a press release.

KO, who was renamed Ken, is available for adoption.
