“This is a time for us to come together as a community, mourn the loss of our friend and colleague, show our support to Officer Swanson’s family, and honor the legacy and bravery of Officer Chad Swanson,” said Chief Rachel Johnson.
The vigil will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Civic Center Plaza, followed by a procession to Manhattan Beach Pier.
Swanson was a 13-year member of the Manhattan Beach PD. He survived a mass shooting during the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas in 2017, helping carry other victims to safety despite being wounded himself.
“The entire Manhattan Beach community is mourning the loss of an officer who dedicated his career to ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents,” said Mayor Richard Montgomery. “His fearless contributions to our community and beyond were marked by bravery, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to duty.”
The Manhattan Beach Police Officers’ Association has created a donation fund for Swanson’s wife and three children.
