The song arrives a few weeks after Mumford sprung the first song from the project, “How,” on fans while joining his friend Brandi Carlile on stage during her concert at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. Since then, Marcus took to social media to officially announce a debut, solo album called self-titled, arriving September 16.

“In January 2021, facing demons I danced with for a long time in isolation, I wrote a song called ‘Cannibal,’” he shared via socials. “I took it to my friend Blake Mills, and we began the process of making this album, dear to my heart.”

While the album is his first solo venture, Mumford didn’t go it all alone. Various guest artist appear on a number of tracks, they include Carlile, Phoebe Bridgers, Clairo, and Monica Martin.

Pre-orders of the project are available now.
