The body of a female hiker was found Thursday in a remote part of a Burbank park.

The woman was reported missing on Wednesday after taking a hike in Stough Canyon on East Walnut Avenue. Officers reported to the area around 10 p.m. that evening. They surveyed the area on foot and by police helicopter, but discontinued the search until morning citing difficult terrain and low visibility.

"This morning, officers responded back to the area and continued their search for the hiker," Burbank police Sgt. Emil Brimway told City News Service.

"The department’s drone was also deployed. During their search with the drone, officers were able to locate the hiker. Officers hiked to the subject and determined she was deceased."

The body was reported to have been found in rugged terrain off a trail, "a steep valley between two ridges."

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the woman. They are still investigating the cause of death, but said the incident appeared "to be accidental in nature."
