Some people are slamming the Netflix cartoon reboot of the 1970s classic “Good Times” ahead of its release date.

The original show ran on CBS from 1974 to 1979. It used humor to explore serious issues through the eyes of a working class black family. Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane is the co-executive producer of the new iteration, which follows the new generation of the Evans family. After seeing the reboot’s trailer, some fans of the original show are now going to social media to voice concern about negative stereotypes the show seems to focus on.

KNX News’ Nataly Tavidian spoke to Tyrone Howard, a UCLA education professor, who grew up watching the show.

“We have fought too long and too hard to try to eradicate and disprove those stereotypes, and to have something to be put out that only reinforces, lifts ups, and affirms those stereotype around a show that, while it may have had some stereotypical comments 50 years ago, but they weren't nearly to that degree,” he said.

Netflix is set to release all 10 episodes of the animated “Good Times” on Friday.
