Koreatown is getting its first new park in more than 100 years, which will be next to the Pio Pico Library.
Jimmy Kim, general manager of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, told KNX News’ Emily Valdez Koreatown is considered to be one of the densest communities in L.A. and the most park poor.
“This groundbreaking is really monumental for the community of Koreatown,” he said.
Sean Cook, a Koreatown resident who watched the groundbreaking, said the community is in most need of a public park.

“We've been hearing about the project for many years and I'm just glad to hear that the city is actually taking real steps forward in bringing this park,” Cook said.
The park, along with underground parking, is expected to be completed in two years. It’ll have a children’s playground, a lot of trees, and places for people to sit, read a book, and relax.
