The motel was evacuated, and a SWAT team was sent to the scene, police said. Traffic was routed away from the area, and a nearby school was locked down as a precaution.

The man was found dead shortly before noon Monday of an apparent self-inflicted wound, the LAPD reported. On Tuesday morning, the man was identified by the Los Angeles County coroner's office as Dominique McGuire, 33, of Gardena. An autopsy was pending.
