One of Taco Bell’s last remaining restaurants with the fast-food chain’s original design will close on Tuesday, according to the Orange County Registrar.
Owner Steven Smith made the announcement in a Facebook post, writing, “In June 1964 Taco Bell opened in Laguna Beach CA on September 7 , 2021 after 54 years the oldest Taco Bell in OC and the 3rd oldest in the world will close for good. We thank all of our loyal customers for their business over these 54 years.”
Smith went on to say the restaurant had lost its lease.
In 2015, the original Taco Bell was moved from Downey to Irvine where the Taco Bell headquarters is currently located.
When the original structure was transported south, Deb Bailey, 56, told the Los Angeles Times that she used to ride her bike through cow pastures to the restaurant when she was in junior high.
“We used to cut through the back,” Bailey said as she held a sign that read “Adios Taco Bell.” “It’s a part of my childhood.”
The fast-food chain’s look was designed by Robert L. McKay and served customers through walk-up windows rather than dining rooms or drive-thrus.
