One person was killed in a three-vehicle crash involving two sedans and a big rig Tuesday on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway.

California Highway Patrol officers were called 2:43 a.m. to the southbound 5 Freeway near Lorena Street exit where they found the wreckage, CHP Officer Sean Lough told City News Service.

One of the sedans appeared to have slammed into a freeway embankment and burst into flames and the second vehicle sustained significant front end damage. Television video footage from the scene showed the big rig also sustained damage to one side of its trailer.
