Pedestrian killed in Lancaster hit-and-run crash

A man was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle and killed in the Lancaster area, and authorities Thursday sought the public's help to find the motorist.

The man died at the scene of his injury, which occurred about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on 10th Street West north of Avenue H, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Information on his identity was not immediately available.

"Preliminary investigation indicates a male adult was standing/walking in the middle of the No. 1 southbound lane of 10th Street West and was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling southbound on 10th Street West towards Avenue H," a sheriff's department statement said.

No description was available of the hit-and-run vehicle or motorist.

"The cause of the collision is still being investigated," the sheriff's statement said. "It is unknown if speed was a factor in the collision. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs played a role."

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call traffic investigators at the Lancaster Sheriff's Station at 661-948-8466.
