Administrators with the Riverside Unified School District have announced a plan to deal with the fallout of a widely publicized scandal involving a math teacher mocking Native Americans to a classroom full of students.

The plan includes establishment of an "action team" to develop strategies for expanding diversity, equity, and inclusion training at Riverside schools, according a statement from the district.

The statement also said the district planned to apply for an Indian Education Formula Grant from the U.S. Department of Education, which would provide support for Native American students in Riverside in readng, math, graduation, and cultural identity.

The teacher involved, who sparked national outrage after performing a faux Native American chant and dance, all of which was recorded on video and posted to Instagram, remains on paid administrative leave.

"Fact-finding will occur and after the fact-finding stage, decisions will be made regarding the correct process and steps to be taken," the statement read. "Although the time that the process takes may be frustrating to some, there is no way to shortcut the process."
