A sign on Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica has local leaders debating the first amendment.

The sign says “Santa Methica is not safe” and it uses a city logo. Below that sign is another one that has a picture of the city manager and says he supports the needle and meth distribution program in the parks and public places.

Santa Monica City Council has scheduled to take up a resolution to condemn the signs at their meeting Tuesday evening. Supporters of the resolution say the city council and the city manager don’t play a role in authorizing the program and the signs could hurt businesses on the promenade.

A member of the coalition that’s been putting up the signs told the Santa Monica Lookout that the council’s not listening to the concerns people have about what’s happening in the community.
