Bus lanes installed late last year on a 5.6-mile stretch of Sepulveda Blvd. in the San Fernando Valley are bringing significant time savings for Metro riders.

KNX News’ Margaret Carrero spoke to Patrick Chandler, with L.A. Metro, about the new bus lanes. He said these bus priority lanes are just like the ones in other parts of Los Angeles designed to allow buses to get past traffic.

“The idea is to get them past being stuck in traffic and speed up their trip to wherever they need to go, but also to make it more reliable than on time,” Chandler said.

He said that Metro is seeing a time savings of about 15%.

The bus priority lanes have been in place for about five months. They run in both directions on Sepulveda from Ventura Blvd. to Rayen St.

While the lanes are meant for buses and emergency vehicles, they can also be used by drivers making a right turn and cyclists.

L.A. leaders recently announced that Hollywood Boulevard will also be getting bus lanes.
