Residents are being urged to stay away from the ocean due to dangerous surf conditions from Central Coast down to Los Angeles County.
“Dangerous surf, life-threatening rip currents, and coastal flooding are expected at the beaches this week,” National Weather Service Los Angeles wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Impacts are expected to become most extreme on Thursday.”
The National Weather Service said the areas that will see the most significant impacts are Central Coast, Ventura County Coast, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, and Palos Verdes Beaches.
Central Coast is expected to have 15 to 20 feet waves with sets to 25 feet while Ventura County Coast is expected to have 10 to 15 feet with sets to 20 feet. Waves in the Santa Barbara South Coast are expected reach seven to 12 feet with sets to 15 to 20 feet.
“For L.A. County, we are looking at large breaking waves of seven to 12 feet with dangerous rip currents,” Rose Schoenfeld with the National Weather Service told KNX News’ Jon Baird.
These conditions are expected to go into the weekend.
