On Tuesday, Southwest Airlines celebrated Burbank Airport’s new terminal, which is currently under construction.
Southwest COO Andrew Watterson said the terminal will open next year.
“The new terminal being bigger allows us to fly our bigger aircraft, which, because they're more modern, burn less fuel and are quieter,” he said. “So it's a win all around.”
He also said the airline will be offering nonstop flights to Hawaii.

“This will be our third new route next year, starting with the resumption of our SFO three-times frequency, as well as a new nonstop service to Sonoma's Santa Rosa Airport,” he said. “So it speaks to the commitment of Southwest Airlines for Burbank Airport. This is one of our hometown airports.”
