TARZANA, LOS ANGELES (KNX) – Two people were hospitalized following an explosion in Tarzana caused by what investigators believe was a drug lab.

Firefighters responded to 18805 Redwing Street just before 11:00 p.m. Thursday following a 911 call.

It took 20 to 25 minutes for the flames to burn out, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

A 26-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man were hospitalized in critical condition.

Detective Cecil Mangrum with the Los Angeles Police Department told KNX News it appeared that there was a THC extraction lab inside the garage that blew up.

“They're extracting THC from marijuana and making it into a concentrate and then most likely selling it on the street,” he said, adding that it was a miracle anyone survived the explosion.
