The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas has doubled down on his distaste for older songs, saying the band’s hit single "Last Nite" is officially "dead" to him.

Casablancas reiterated the point he made years ago when he said he "couldn’t care less" about playing The Strokes' 2001 hit "Last Nite" while speaking with The Guardian in a new interview, saying the song is "pretty dead to me."

"I’m not sure why," he adds. "There are some others like ‘Reptilia’, ‘Hard to Explain’, ‘Someday‘, ‘Take It Or Leave it’, ‘New York City Cops’ that are comparable in terms of crowd reaction that I’m not quite as sick of. If I heard it on the radio, I’d probably turn it off.”

"I get sick of songs quickly. Even Beethoven’s ‘Moonlight Sonata.’ You listen to that enough, you will get sick of it,” he said in 2020. "When you start playing 30 or 40 shows, the music doesn’t move you. You feel phoney. To some extent, that’s why I play with Voidz. I couldn’t care less about playing ‘Last Nite.’”

Casablancas released his third studio album with his band The Voidz -- Like All Before You -- in September 2024. Neither band currently has any tour dates on the horizon.
