Patricio Fuentes was with his family at Warner Park in Woodland Hills Saturday when he heard horrific screams about a quarter mile away.

He ran to help and found an unleashed white and black pit bull with no collar, pinning a bloodied young man to ground.

“It was a mauling. I mean, this animal wanted to kill,” Fuentes told KNX News’ Emily Valdez.

Fuentes said the young man had his hands in the dog’s mouth, trying to keep it from biting his neck. Then the dog lunged at Fuentes, biting him in the chest before latching onto his arm. The dog’s apparent owner, a woman, was standing nearby, screaming.

Then suddenly, the dog stopped. The woman called it over, took it to her car, and drove away.

“I was bleeding so much that I had to sit down,” Fuentes said. “An ambulance came, and the other young guy was in a lot of pain.”

Fuentes called the woman “irresponsible” for leaving the scene, adding that the dog had already jumped at the other man while he was passing by about 40 minutes earlier.

“So that should have been, number one, her warning, I should just leave,” he said. “She stuck around with the dog off leash.”

Fuentes and the other man were both taken to a hospital. The other victim was left with dozens of bite wounds. They filed a police report, but were told the Department of Parks and Recreation is responsible for investigating.

KNX News reached out to Parks and Recreation for an update on the investigation, but hasn’t received a response.
