LOS ANGELES (KNX) — UCLA Athletic officials apologized for not being properly staffed during Friday night’s basketball game against Villanova.

Tobias Sunshine, who was one of a plethora of students waiting outside Pauley Pavillion for hours, described the scene to KNX as “anxiety-provoking," noting it scared his girlfriend and others.

“These two lines kind of converged together and kind of created this big, massive blob and people would move up and people behind them would kind of crush them,” he described. “I was definitely having to move my like elbows and stuff like that and say, ‘Hey guys, you’ve gotta stop moving.’”

Martin Jarmond, the Alice and Nahum Lainer Family Director of Athletics at UCLA, addressed the incident on his Twitter page.

“We were not adequately staffed to handle the turnout,” he wrote. “I apologize and it will be corrected moving forward.”

The overcrowding concerns come after the Astroworld Festival incident that left 10 people dead.

Scott Markley, UCLA athletic department spokesman, told the L.A. Times there were no reported injuries.
